Journal Entry #10

This is the link to an advertising campaign that I found interesting and effective. The original photos are what struck me first. They way they were manipulated gave off the idea of a depressed, overworked person leading to an effective campaign.

Journal Entry #8

For this Journal Entry I chose to display a series of ads that I didn't like. These Rolling Stone Ads were very critically acclaimed. I just don't really understand them. They are funny and different, but I'm not sure that by reading the copy I understand why it is that I should purchase a Rolling Stone magazine, or what the copy even has to do with Rolling Stone. I think to understand it or to create a meaning you have to read too much into it. Rolling stone could easily create an advertisement that is more visually and textually appealing than this series.

Journal Entry #7

I chose these Smith and Wesson ads that I saw in a Communication Arts magazine. They caught me as being very clever and clean. Quite simple to create, they achieve their goal of displaying the ability of their product. Also all of the ads work very well together in a grouping. They all follow that western shootout type of imagery, and with the logo stamp in the wooden background they evoke a feeling of toughness. All around, good ads.

Journal Entry #6

I found this logo on logopond.com. I chose to include it in my blog because I really like the texture of the logo to give it that "grill" effect, and I think it communicates its message well.

Journal Entry #5

I chose this piece because lately I have been into packaging design. I'm not a huge fan of when companies change the look of the bottle or container as in the design below. I find it to be counterproductive to the products goals (water bottle shape is so that it fits in a bike holder easily/can be carried easily etc)(below image is contrary to that end).

Instead I chose the above image as my piece for this entry. It accomplishes it's goal. The packaging is attractive and simple. The different types of the product are distinguishable and eye catching. Overall I think it is very well done.

Journal Entry #4

I found this logo on logopond.com. I chose it because I as interested in how it was created. It reminded me of the gooey glassy graphics exercise we were recently learning in class. I was intrigued by the color scheme and how the artist made it look 3d with simple shaded squares.

Journal Entry #3

These are three Porsche advertisements as part of an ad campaign. I chose these ads because I believe that they are simple and elegant. I really like when a company can advertise their product with something that maybe takes only a few minutes to create but says it all (sometimes better than expensive, task heavy ads take to create). All three also go well together in a unified campaign.

Journal Entry #2

I found this logo on "logopond.com." I chose it because it originally caught my eye as a spartan helmet with a typeface, and then when I looked closer I realized that the golfer and range of motion created the helmet. The entire concept seemed genious to me. I'm not crazy about the typ face that the designer chose but it is still definitely one of my favorite logos.

Jordan Gray Creative

I found this website on "webcreme.com." I chose it because it is similar to a type of website that I would like to create and use for myself. It is simple, elegant, and effective, with minimal distractions or filler content. It performs its task, while also displaying the designers work in a unique and design savvy fashion.
